Dr. Sylvia Schmidt, one of our Memphis members, gave a most interesting report on her recent trip organized by the General Society tracing the Pilgrims travels in Holland and England en route to sailing on the Mayflower.

Old Business

Governor Young reported that attempts to apply for tax exempt status with the State of Tennessee have been discontinued since two previous attempts have been rejected. Already approximately $300 in applications fees has been spent trying to attain this status.

New Business

Governor Young recognized Christopher Taylor who presented new amendments to our

Constitution and By-laws as recommended by the TN Board of Assistants.  After much discussion, the changes were voted upon favorably.  New Constitutions will be printed and sent to all members.

Dennis Klotter was appointed by Governor Young to head the committee for nominations of new officers for the 2008 – 2011 term.  New officer nominations will be voted upon at the November 2008 annual meeting.  Dennis encouraged any member with interest in holding office or chairing a committee to please contact him.

Governor Young reported the General Congress will be held the weekend after Labor Day in 2007 in Plymouth, MA.  Based upon on current membership numbers, the TN Society will be allowed to have eight delegates attend this Congress in addition to the DGG and AG .  Only the AG and DGG have voting rights, but Roger encouraged anyone interested in going as a Tennessee delegate to contact him.

Dennis Klotter raised the issue of continuing Life Memberships in Tennessee. Discussion ensued and the matter will be addressed by the Board of Assistants who may then make a formal recommendation to the membership at our next meeting.

Donations will be made to the General Society in memory of former Governor Lyn Baker and former Secretary Roberta Parish.

After a delicious luncheon, Christopher Taylor introduced our honored speaker, Historian  General  Ann Lainhart who spoke of her most interesting and detailed detective work in genealogical research in approving applicant’s lineage for membership in the General Society.  With much humor, she also told of many odd and funny events in the process of applicants trying to get their membership approved.

Thanks were given to all the officers and committee chairs for the work done on behalf of the Society this past year and special thanks given to Gayle Happell for the lovely fall centerpieces which decorated our luncheon tables today.

The meeting was adjourned in due form.
